A success story: Nottingham Collective

Nottingham Collective is an exciting new project dedicated to showcasing local creative talent in events all across Nottingham – and they want YOU!

The brainchild of local designer maker Katie Stainer, the project is accessible to anyone regardless of experience or creative medium, and is especially dedicated to helping makers take advantage of opportunities they could not participate in as an individual.

“I have always been unhappy with the elitism of certain opportunities. It often seems that money or reputation play a bigger part than raw talent, and as an emerging maker myself I know how daunting this can feel. So I set up Nottingham Collective to help make these events accessible, and to take advantage of the power of numbers. Our most successful event, the Nottingham Christmas Market, is something I could never afford to take part in by myself – but together with other creatives, sharing costs, labour and laughs, the event was a huge success for everyone!”

2012 exhibitors include talented local makers Rhea ClementsHannah Stevens Screen Printed TextilesAnna Roebuck (Bags2Riches)Delish Cake PopsDayseye Jewels and DesignsSteph LaneJolie MaidmentLaura Mathews (LessThanThreeD)Eimear ScullinSam Taylor Glass and Deborah Ballinger (Love Raccoons Illustration).

The Nottingham Christmas Market 2011 was such a success that Nottingham Collective is already booked in for 2012 and they plan to take over as much of the market as possible with local handmade products, but they need your help!

“We consider all applications and try to include as many makers as we can accomodate per event. Although there are a core group of designers who take part in our events we are always excited to welcome new creatives and will never stop accepting applications.”
