If you know me, you probably also know I’m an avid reader and have been attending a book clubran by the lovely Pam, which now takes place at the Broadway. If you’re thinking about joining a book club but are put off by preconceptions, you should just come along and you’ll never look back!In Pam’s words, here’s the latest update:
At the last meeting we had a great discussion about The Catcher in the Rye with the room split 50/50 on whether they loved it or hated it, and some even finding themselves divided about it with each re-read at different stages of their lives.
As we now have so many members, two visiting authors and their publisher for the next meeting we were going to meet in the Studio again, but we’ve been moved back to the lovely Lounge! Date still the same though: Broadway on Thursday 24 November. More details of the authors and the books here: Broadway Book Club welcomes two authors and their publisher in November
The book club choices for December are in more detail here: vote now for the book you’d like to read in December
Remember to cast your vote for the book that you’d like to read on the blog, or you can email me your vote, vote at Broadway Book Club on facebook, or @BooksatBroadway on twitter. There’s also a facebook question where you can post your book recommendations!
We discussed a book club trip to see The Help, a movie based on the book by Kathryn Stockett at Cinewold. We decided on Sunday 6 November for this trip. I will confirm the movie time next week, the new schedule comes out on Wednesday normally. At the moment it is showing at 1.10pm but this may change.
Meanwhile the Broadway Cinema is screening Wuthering Heights There is a special preview screening on Friday 4 November at 7.30pm, this will be followed by an extended discussion with director Andrea Arnold. Alternatively, if like me you can’t make that date I’m going to see it on Sunday 20 November at 12.30pm and you’re more than welcome to join me, I’ll be in the ground floor at noon.
Finally, loveahappyending.com have asked if we would like to review a book by one of their authors and be featured in their Book Club Review Chair. You would have to buy the book or request it from a library. Have a look at their website and see if it is something that you would like to get involved in and let me know. If the majority of members would like to do it, I’ll confirm but I’ll assume that if I haven’t heard from anyone by the next book club re: this offer that it’s a no!
